Thank you so much for having a look at my website. I’ve compiled a few of the most commonly asked questions, but feel free to email/ call me if you have any more!
WHAT IS LIFESTYLE PHOTOGRAPHY?
Lifestyle photography is about capturing the moment as it unfolds. In a nutshell, this means I won’t be telling the kids to say ‘cheese’ and then expecting a fake smile!! I will guide you to being your natural selves, capturing all your love and emotions through having fun! Expect to laugh, cuddle, kiss, play with one another! It’s less about posing, and more about natural connections!
WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?
I live in the Hills district of Sydney but I am happy to travel throughout Sydney and its surrounds.
WHY SHOULD I BOOK A SESSION WITH YOU?
To put it simply, I am so passionate about capturing love and I want everyone to see this through your photos! This is my dream job! I strive to capture all those precious and real memories so you can show all your friends and family how beautiful you are! AND I love meeting new and fun people! The session is about bringing your family together for a fun afternoon, I just happen to be there to document it. Don’t worry though, I will prompt you with activities so the session flows with lots of genuine smiles and laughter. I also have a current Working with Children Check.
Please don’t worry about little kids being silly and naughty, this is totally normal! I am happy to chase them around doing their cute things when they think no one is watching! Let them explore, play and be silly – embrace the crazy WITH THEM and let’s capture moments that you will look back on that will make you smile, laugh and cry! The best photos happen when everyone is relaxed and being themselves, including parents!
Yep it happens all the time!! (And I say this as it’s usually the Mum’s that book!). I promise it won’t be boring! The Dads are always pleasantly surprised at how fun my sessions are – plus it’s an excuse just to have an hour’s fun with your kids. And the kids LOVE it because they are getting your undivided attention!
Many Mums find that they are usually the one’s taking the photos and not in them so hopefully if you explain this to your husband he will understand! It’s so important for everyone to be seen in your family’s memories!
HOW LONG AND WHAT TIME DO SESSIONS TAKE PLACE?
Outdoor shoots are best in the ‘golden hour’ before sunset. All my family outdoor sessions coincide with this time because of the beautiful, warm light. It is a big part of my photography. I like to meet around 1 hour before sunset, we can have a quick chat, and find the best spot to get started. Depending on the light, and what sort of mood everyone is in, we can usually get all our shots in 60-90 minutes. This time obviously would be later and later towards summer, and with little kids I know how important that 7pm bus is! I have a 3 year old and I hate messing with her sleep but I promise you for this one day it’s totally worth the disruption to make your photos that extra special.
Indoor shoots are a bit more flexible. Ideally, for babies, around 10am is great because babies and young kids are a bit more relaxed and happy but we can work around your kids’ schedule!
HOW OLD SHOULD MY BABY BE FOR A NEWBORN SESSION?
Ideally the best time is the first 4-14 days, however, because lifestyle sessions don’t depend on bubba being asleep, really anytime in the first 2-3 months is totally fine! I allow about 2 hours for the session because that means we have extra time for nappy changes, feeding and cuddling!
WHERE SHOULD WE HAVE OUR SESSION?
Beach, bush, park or at home - it’s all up to you, however, if you’re unsure let me know and I can suggest some great places!
Indoor sessions: I will be looking for the best natural light and we would generally use 2-3 rooms – master bedroom, living room or a nursery perhaps, it would all depend on what available light there is. No need to clean the entire house, but a little (not too much! Keep out Johnny’s favourite toy!) de-cluttering of those rooms is helpful so there aren’t too many distractions.
WHAT TO WEAR
Eek! This is the hardest part, right??
Of course you want to be comfortable and feel amazing in what you’re wearing, however, you also want to wear something a bit special too. My tips:
Start with one person (Mum! Great opportunity to buy something you love!) and then work outfits around that person.
For sunset sessions warm, earthy tones are great (think current ‘in’ colours: mustard, olive green, brown, cream, burgundy)
If you're not a fan of these colours, go for neutrals or complimentary colours – this is a tricky one though because you don’t want to be too matchy-matchy! A few pops of colour will work well with neutrals.
Ladies/Girls - flowy, maxi dresses work really well because the movement in them photograph beautifully. If you’re not keen on dresses that's ok - keep it simple and add some texture with a cardi or scarf. Jeans is fine, just steer away from black. Best not to wear super high heels too because we will be walking/playing etc.
Babies/kids wearing nappies, please put them in a onesie singlet underneath what they're wearing so the nappy doesn't show or nappy cover for girls in skirts/dresses.
Newborns- simple is best! A plain white onesie is fine -we can always add a sweet blanket or muslin. You always need a back up outfit for newborns though (and possibly for Mum too)!
In-home sessions work best if you wear lighter-coloured clothing
THINGS TO AVOID:
No jeans with white t-shirts PLLLLLLLLEASE!
No black! Black isn't really that slimming - it can actually make you look bigger if, for example, you're standing feet together as you can't decipher one leg from the other in the photo.
No big logos and super bright colours - we want everyone's faces to be the focus of the photos, not your Batman t-shirt!
If you need more inspiration, I have some pinterest ideas you can have a look at here. Feel free to send me pics of clothing beforehand if you need help deciding.
WHAT HAPPENS IF IT’S RAINING? OR SOMEONE IS SICK?
No one wants to get wet and no one is happy when they are sick! Of course we will re-schedule to a later date. I just ask for 48 hour’s notice if you’re sick, and I will be in contact earlier in the day if it looks like rain. Cloudy skies, however, can make really interesting photos and there’s less shadowing which is a bonus!
WHEN WILL I GET TO SEE MY PHOTOS?
I will send you a link to your online gallery within 2-3 weeks of your photo shoot. If you haven't already chosen and paid for your package, you will have seven days to decide which images you love the most. After I have received payment for these, your digital images will be made available to download directly through your gallery (or I can send you a USB for a small fee).
HOW MANY PHOTOS WILL I GET?
I will take a wide variety for you to view in your gallery and you will have the option to purchase 10 images, 20 images or your entire gallery (more than 50).
CAN YOU PHOTOSHOP ME?
The short answer is no! Let’s celebrate our bodies exactly how they are. However, I do edit ALL photos to make sure skin tone is correct in terms of exposure and colour. I can fix minor skin blemishes or marks if you would like me to but that may incur a retouching charge.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
Just your gorgeous selves!
I usually do some photos sitting on a blanket, so I will bring that along (unless you have a special one you want to include). If your kids have a special teddy they always carry with them, you’re more than welcome to bring it along. Feel free to bring along (non-messy) food for the kids. We will move around a fair bit too, so if you can leave your bag/wallet/phone etc in the car that would be great.
HOW DO I BOOK?
Awesome! I can’t wait to meet you! Get in touch here and we can sort out the rest!
Once I have a few of your details, I’ll send you through a quote and client contract via my online booking system. To secure your session date, all you need to do is sign the contract and pay a $100 deposit.
