Tips for a stress-free photoshoot

My Quick Tips to make your photo session stress-free !

1.     Plan your outfits – don’t leave it till the last minute! Have them out ready to go for everyone the night before.

2.     Hungry? Hangry? Give the kids an early dinner (for sunset sessions) so that they aren’t complaining that they are hungry, and bring snacks!

3.     Tired? Make sure little kids have a sleep in the day OR make it a chilled out day for them so they have lots of energy left in their tanks for the session.

4.     Positive and fun energy – always! Tell everyone we are going to have fun together and that they will love the games we are going to play.

5.     Let the kids be kids! (and that goes for silly dads too)

6.     Weather – dress for the weather – sometimes once the sun has set the temperature can drop suddenly. No one wants to be cold and remember we are trying our best to keep kids as happy as possible!!

7.     You don’t have to pose/smile for every photo. I’ll be capturing all the candid moments, the snuggles and tickles, so be fully present with your family, give them all the snuggles and tickles you can, and you’ll have a gallery full of natural, happy photos!

8.     Treat the photo session as quality time together rather than something you just need to tick off your list.

9.     Not every moment will be perfect, and that's ok. If we need to stop for a child who needs a minute (or a snack) that’s totally ok.

10.  Be intentional - Tell the kids how much fun you’re going to have together (instead of warning them to be on their best behaviour), because honestly scolding your children to smile is the fastest way to a meltdown! Your attitude makes alllll the difference. Expect a fun session and your photos will be exactly that.

11.  Let perfection go. So you forgot your daughter’s hair ribbon or there was nightmare traffic on the way. It’s not the end of the world, let it all go so you can enjoy the time together.

12.  You won’t feel awkward - I’ll be directing you to create authentic interactions which may include silly jokes, surprise cuddles, tickles and maybe even some toilet humour (the word ‘poo-poo’ seems to be hilarious amongst little kids!)

If you want stress-free family photos, come ready to play and have fun!

My goal is that every client walks away saying “That was fun!”. I feel so thankful when I receive a message from a parent who’s child wants to know when they’re going to see me again or whether they can invite me to their party! I do make a lot of toddler friends!
